The Power of Motivational Messages – When Used Correctly

Sharing is caring:

Last month, I wrote a post about motivational quotes and how they could be interpreted to help us get through the tough moments. This time, I wanted to share why I like the idea of quotes and motivational messages (when used correctly).

The words of others may empower you to reach that lightbulb moment.

A Friendly Pep Talk

I like a pep talk, but only from people who can understand the situation that I’m facing. I’m not sure the words would mean much if they came from a successful business person or celebrity, because their success can be partially attributed to luck or good fortune. And sometimes it’s a literal fortune.

No – I like me a speech from the everyday person: a friend, a family member or maybe a counsellor or coach.

It feels more personal because… it is.

And on top of that, it means something. It’s not just a “Hey I’m in a completely different world than you, but I’m going to give you advice on how to live your life.”

We may know a couple of famous people who tried to do that recently, but it just stands to show that we shouldn’t listen to them about what the reality of life is. They practically live in a fantasy compared to everyday people, who are just trying to stay alive and keep it moving.

On the Same Wavelength

Pep talks that understand the position someone might be in are more effective for me. In a way, they are personalised if they are relatable, and may even have more of an effect on those who receive them.

That’s why I make it my mission every time I go live on Twitch to spread a bit of positivity through a motivational message of the day. This message isn’t some generic quote from a famous person (misattributed or not) that I just slap on there for fun. I purposefully write a message that I can relate to and hope that it brings some comfort, understanding and/or motivation to whoever sees it.

Sometimes people in the chat express how much they relate to those messages, and sometimes say stuff along the lines of “just @ me next time, jeez!”

With these messages, I get to share something that could help someone who needs it. They also give people the chance to connect with me on a deeper level than “that person who gets frustrated with Family Feud, but keeps playing it anyway”.

So all in all, I like quotes and motivational messages because they can bring people with similar struggles together. They can show you that you are not alone. Someone else out there might understand exactly how you feel.
